| Precautions | Use in animals under 6 weeks of age, or in debilitated or aged animals may involve an additional risk. If use cannot be avoided, careful clinical management may be necessary. Meloxicam can result in typical adverse reactions associated with NSAIDs, including loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea, melaena or occult faecal blood, and lethargy. Symptomatic treatment may be necessary. In most cases, gastrointestinal side effects are transient and disappear after termination of treatment; however, in rare cases they may be serious. Owners should be advised to discontinue therapy and contact their veterinarian if signs of intolerance are observed.Meloxicam may displace or be displaced by other highly protein bound drugs, including warfarin and phenylbutazone, and may antagonise the antihypertensive effects of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors.
